Any helpful hints for a single older woman coming in the Fall to see the Foliage? Hiking is not an option for me.

  • Hi my husband and I are traveling to the US from Australia for our 40th wedding anniversary. Arriving in New York in May and hiring a car and travelling to Litchfield for the Secret Trade Festival staying at Hopkins Inn and staying there for 4 nights and visiting the Berkshires while we are there and road trips to the beautiful country. From there we will be traveling to Boston for 2 days then to Nantucket for 3 days to visit Cape Cod and Marthas Vineyard. Two nights in Newport then to the Hamptons for 5 nights. Can you suggest places for us to visit in these places please.

    • Comment re your itinerary. You’ll be coming to Litchfield County for Trade Secrets which takes place in Sharon, CT, not the town of Litchfield. Hopkins inn is located along the shores of Lake Waramaug in Warren, Ct., easily accessable to Sharon by car in less than 30 minutes. Further, you might be interested in Trade Secrets Garden Tour taking place on Sunday, always interesting and fun. Hope our weather is great for you and that you have a lovely time here!

    • Wow – that’s a LOT of traveling for the final leg of your trip. Simply getting to Nantucket takes a good chunk of your day – unless you fly – but even still, why spend your trip in airports. I would recommend selecting EITHER Nantucket, Martha’s Vineyard or the Cape. If you select the Cape, go to the outer section as it is less busy and the national parks are beautiful. I would also choose Nantucket over the Vineyard for the same reasons. Newport RI is amazing. So much do and see. The Cliff Walk is beautiful and not a huge investment of time. Do a harbor tour as the coastline is so pretty.

Hopefully COVID-19 is negind all of us by then and you have an amazing vaca

  • Hi All, I am planning a road trip in August of some magnitude taking in NYC, Cape Cod, Boston, Portland. I am thinking Quebec but want to break the journey up and was thinking North Conway, I know it’s only 2 hours outside of Portland but that would give us the chance to get a short hike in 5-10 miles and then zip up to Canada the following day with renewed vigour. Any opinions? Mark
